Winged Beds

A winged bed has upholstered panels folding forward from either side of the headboard. They do two things: they enclose the head of the bed so lying in it feels more like a nook than a wall, and they block draughts, which in an older house is not a trivial benefit.

Wing depth is the decision. Our deepest wings project a full seven inches, which reads as architecture rather than trim and needs clear space on both sides. Others sit close to the headboard and give you the height and drama with almost no extra width — the better choice if your bed goes into an alcove.

Wings also come straight or curved. Straight wings feel more formal and sit better against panelled walls and picture rails; curved wings are softer and less severe in a smaller room.

Each product page states how far the wings project. Measure your alcove before ordering, and if it is close, ask us — we would rather check than have a bed that does not fit.
