Sleigh Beds

A sleigh bed curves outward at both ends — head and footboard scroll away from the mattress, giving the frame a defined shape from every angle rather than only from the front.

That matters more than it sounds. Most beds are designed to be seen from the front, with a headboard against a wall and nothing much happening at the foot. A sleigh has a finished silhouette all the way round, which makes it the one shape here that still looks deliberate positioned away from the wall or floated in the middle of a larger room.

The scroll also takes up floor space. A sleigh needs more length than its mattress size suggests, because both ends curve outward past the frame — worth checking against your room before ordering rather than after.
