Chesterfield beds

Chesterfield upholstery means deep diamond pleating with a button at every intersection. It is the most traditional treatment we offer and the most labour-intensive to make, because every pleat is worked by hand and they all have to line up.

How far the pleating goes is what separates these frames. Some carry it across the headboard only, above a plain low footboard — the lighter option, and the one that suits a smaller room. Others run it across the headboard, both siderails and a matching footboard, so the bed reads as one continuous upholstered piece. That version is unmistakably opulent and needs the floor area to carry it.

Buttons are your choice. Matching fabric buttons keep the pleating subtle. Diamante buttons catch light, and on a dark velvet the buttoning pattern becomes visible across the room. On a pale fabric they largely disappear, so matching buttons are usually the better call — our fabric guide goes into this properly.
