Velvet has a pile, and pile catches light. Run your hand one way across it and it darkens; the other way and it lifts. On a buttoned or pleated headboard that is exactly what you want — the pleats read as genuine depth rather than as lines printed on a flat surface.
It is why almost every bed in our range is offered in velvet, and why a Chesterfield or winged frame looks considerably better in it than in a flat weave.
The trade-off is that velvet shows pressure marks. Not damage — pile direction. A cushion left against the headboard leaves a shaded patch that brushes out with your hand. If that would irritate you, boucle is the more forgiving choice.
Order samples before you commit. Screens misrepresent colour badly across greys and beiges, and a made-to-order bed in the wrong shade is the one thing we cannot quietly fix. Our fabric guide explains how room light changes what you see, and samples are free.
