Crushed velvet beds

Crushed velvet is velvet whose pile has been pressed in different directions, so it catches the light unevenly and shimmers as you move past it. On a Chesterfield, panelled or winged headboard it adds depth that a flat fabric cannot. It is also forgiving: because the pile already runs every way, it does not show the hand marks that smooth velvet does.
