TV beds: what to know before you buy

A TV bed hides the television inside the footboard and lifts it into view when you want it. Here is what to check before you buy one.

How a TV bed works

The TV is mounted on an electric lift built into the footboard. Press the remote and the screen rises to the right height for watching from bed; press it again and it lowers out of sight. The room goes back to being a bedroom, with no screen on the wall and no stand taking up floor space.

What size TV fits?

Our TV beds take a screen of up to 60 inches. Most TV beds sold in the UK are made for screens of around 32 to 50 inches, so if you already own a large TV this is the first thing to check. The largest screen that fits depends on the bed size and frame: send us your TV model on WhatsApp and we will confirm before you order. The TV is not included.

Which bed size?

The TV lift lives in the footboard, so a wider bed gives a wider footboard. For a large screen, a king or super king is the natural choice; a double suits smaller screens and smaller rooms.

Bed sizeMattressRoom for a comfortable fit
Double135 × 190 cmAbout 2.8 × 2.8 m
King150 × 200 cmAbout 3.0 × 3.0 m
Super King180 × 200 cmAbout 3.4 × 3.2 m

Remember that the frame is larger than the mattress, and the TV needs clear space above the footboard to rise into.

The headboard matters more than the lift

If you are buying a TV bed you plan to sit up in it, so a tall, well-padded or tufted headboard matters more than any feature of the mechanism. Our standard headboard is 54 inches tall, and you can choose 60, 72 or up to 79 inches when you order.

Upholstered or metal?

Upholstered TV beds are warmer and better to lean against, and come in any of our 72 colours. Metal TV beds are slimmer and reflect light, which suits a smaller or darker room.

Before you order

  • Check your TV's model number and send it to us so we can confirm it fits.
  • You will need a plug socket near the foot of the bed for the lift and the TV.

Questions

Are TV beds a good idea?

If you watch TV in bed, yes. The screen sits at the right height for watching from bed and disappears when you are done, so there is no screen on the wall.

What is the biggest TV you can get in a TV bed?

Our TV beds take a screen of up to 60 inches, depending on the bed size and frame. Most TV beds in the UK are made for smaller screens, so check yours with us before you order.

Does any TV fit in a TV bed?

No. The screen has to fit the lift and the footboard. Send us your TV model and we will confirm it fits.

Do TV beds need a plug socket?

Yes. The lift is electric, so you need a socket near the foot of the bed for the lift and the TV.
